Privacy policy
This policy explains how Aged Care Compare handles personal information under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).
What we collect, and when
- Browsing and free tools: nothing that identifies you. We keep anonymous counts of which places are searched and which home pages are viewed.
- Account (for paid reports): your email, full name, mobile number, postcode and relationship to the person needing care.
- Care profile: about the person needing care: name, age range, location preferences, room preferences and, if you choose to give them, care needs (for example dementia care). Care needs are health information, which is sensitive information under the APPs; we collect it only with your consent and only to personalise reports.
- Financial details (optional): pension status, approximate home value, savings and income, used only to estimate fees.
- Provider accounts: organisation name, ABN (optional), contact name and phone, and the homes you add. Benchmark reports are deleted 2 years after they're generated.
- Gift codes: if you redeem one, we record which account used it and when.
- Payments: handled by Stripe. We receive a payment reference, amount and status. We never see or store card numbers.
We don't ask for dates of birth, Medicare numbers, government identifiers or medical records. Please don't include them in messages.
How we use it
- To create your report: find homes, calculate cost estimates and explain the results.
- To contact the aged care homes you choose, only when you ask us to and after you've seen exactly what will be shared.
- To run your account, process payments, prevent misuse and meet legal obligations.
We don't sell personal information, use it for advertising targeting, or send care-recipient information to advertising platforms. Health and financial information is never used to choose ads.
AI processing (Anthropic)
Reports are written with help from an AI service provided by Anthropic, PBC, which may process information outside Australia (for example in the United States). Before anything is sent to the AI, we remove names, email addresses, phone numbers and identifying numbers, and we convert exact financial figures into ranges. The AI receives: the request you type (with those details removed), age range, postcodes, room and care preferences, and financial ranges. We ask for your consent before your first report. AI output can contain errors, so reports show what is published data, what is our calculation, and what needs confirming.
Who we share it with
- Aged care homes you select: only the details shown on the confirmation screen (by default: first name and last initial, age range, preferred area, room preferences, pension status, timeframe, and your contact details). Care needs are shared only if you tick a separate box. We never send asset values, your home's value or medical history.
- Service providers who help us run the site: hosting, email delivery (Google Gmail), Stripe (payments) and Anthropic (AI). They may store or process data overseas.
- Where the law requires it.
Security and retention
Data is sent over encrypted connections. Names, phone numbers, care needs, financial details and report contents are encrypted in our database. Access is limited to authorised staff and is logged. We keep account and report data while your account is open and delete it when you ask. We keep payment records (without personal details) for as long as tax law requires, We don't pass your details to aged care homes.
Your choices and rights
You can see and update your details in My account, withdraw consent for future processing, and delete your account and data at any time (My account → Delete). You can ask us for a copy of, or to correct, the personal information we hold by emailing shammisaini19@gmail.com. We'll respond within 30 days. If you're not satisfied, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.
Cookies
We use one essential cookie to keep you signed in and protect forms. No advertising or tracking cookies. Maps load tiles from OpenStreetMap, and the site's fonts load from Google Fonts; both receive your IP address when pages load, but no account or tracking information. Payment pages are run by Stripe under its own privacy policy.
